NJS Pilot Council Meets - Formal Proposal Forwarded to the Company
Firstly, many thanks to all those members who completed our survey, which has greatly assisted the NJS Pilot Council in our planning. The results were clear, and unsurprising, in that remuneration remained the topic that clearly needed addressing by the company. In addition there was near unanimity in that nearly every pilot would either actively look or passively look for alternative employment if the company didn’t recognise that the current EA just wasn’t fit for purpose.
Consequently your pilot Council met on Wednesday in Canberra and during the afternoon met NJS management consisting of Andrew Page (COO), Tony Macdonald (Head of Flight Operations) and Ian Verner (Senior Manager Line Operations). It would be fair to say the discussions were at times ‘robust’ as your pilot council clearly enunciated the views of the membership and the necessity to address the current EA.
As a result of these discussions your pilot Council has today written to the COO formally proposing a limited number of alterations to the current EA, predominantly focusing on remuneration. The formal proposals can be
viewed here.
The reason for the limited nature of the proposals is twofold. Firstly your pilot Council want any proposals to be quickly implemented – we are not seeking to have a whole period of renegotiation but simple and quick improvements to the EA. Secondly the company is under no obligation to vary the EA and hence why we are seeking only what they offered to Network pilots earlier this year, as this is both fair and wouldn’t have implications on the current arbitration about to take place over in Perth.
Once again many thanks for the clear message received via the survey which greatly assisted your reps in tabling these formal proposals. We shall of course keep you updated with the company’s response.
