Qantas Short Haul EA Update No 15
As you will likely be aware, the Company’s proposed SH enterprise agreement was voted down today by 63.4% of voters. The QPC did not reach the decision to recommend a no vote lightly, and we stand by our alternative offer.
We believe we have accurately represented the pilots throughout this process, and have advised Qantas consistently that the proposed offer would likely not be acceptable to the majority of pilots. The main concerns expressed by pilots in our survey data and through direct member feedback surrounded remuneration guarantees and the significant concessions contained in the proposed EA. The vote outcome reflects the sentiment expressed through member data we have collected.
The QPC remains committed to equipping pilots with all of the information necessary to make informed decisions when it comes to voting on EAs and to representing our members based on accurate data collected via multiple surveys. We have made these representations without prejudice throughout the EA negotiation process and believe this is the most transparent and fair form of representation.
Moving forward, we are committed to a negotiated outcome and have expressed to Qantas our willingness and readiness to negotiate an agreement that will be acceptable to a majority of the SH pilots.
Prior to the proposed EA being put to a ballot, we presented Qantas with an alternative offer that sufficiently meets the claims of the pilots while notably also complying with the Company’s number one claim of a wages policy compliant agreement.
Critically, this alternative offer contains reasonable adjustments designed to simply guarantee what the Company has advertised as remuneration gains through structural changes. We maintain that the adjustments contained in this offer would likely generate a yes vote.
We have reached out to the Company to re-commence the negotiation process. As always, we will keep you updated throughout the process.
