Qantas Short Haul EA Update No 20
As pilots will likely be aware, the Company’s proposed Qantas Airways Limited Pilots (Short Haul) Enterprise Agreement 2024 (EBA9) (proposed SH EA) was approved today by 59.8% of eligible pilots from a 90% participation rate.
While the AFAP QPC did not endorse the proposed SH EA, we are pleased that following the no vote last year there are several key improvements to the document that will benefit SH pilots.
As we advised prior to the vote we respect the decision made by SH pilots to vote up the proposed SH EA. From here Qantas must submit the document for approval by the Fair Work Commission (FWC) within 14 days. The proposed SH EA will only come into operation 7 days after approval by the FWC.
The AFAP as a bargaining representative will be invited to participate in the approval process. As we advised prior to the vote, the AFAP will support the approval of the agreement provided it is in compliance with the Fair Work Act (noting Qantas has refused to heed our concerns regarding the dispute procedure or the proposed FOT salaries we outlined in a previous Briefing
here).
The QPC will provide further details and analysis in future updates as the approval process moves forward. In the meantime if you have any questions regarding SH bargaining we welcome members contacting the QPC representatives below or the AFAP legal and industrial team of Senior Legal/ Industrial Officer Pat Larkins (
patrick@afap.org.au), Senior Industrial Officer Chris Aikens (
chris@afap.org.au), and Executive Director Simon Lutton (
simon@afap.org.au) to ensure that you are informed prior to voting.
