Expedited crew access (ECA)/KNOWN CREW MEMBER
AusALPA and AFAP have been pursuing an expedited crew access solution for well over 10 years to align with the Known Crewmember program in the US. Most recently AFAP attended meetings for the Single Issuing Body (SIB) reform project to raise the concept again. The last on it was that it fell outside SIB and as such ‘escalated’ it. We are still trying to determine what this means.
Initiating Working group (iWG)
S&T believes to affect any development of an ECA program we need to go bigger. The AFAP has developed a proposal for the Australian ECA initiative. This initiative aims to enhance security and efficiency for aircrew through trust-based screening, similar to the successful CrewPASS and RAIC programs in the U.S. and Canada. The working group will identify key stakeholders, outline eligibility criteria, ensure privacy protections, and engage policymakers and the public to support the program. The goal is to create a comprehensive framework that maintains high security standards while facilitating smoother screening processes for trusted aircrew.
